SIDCN in collaboration with AIDS Saskatoon(601) celebrated World Hepatitis Day on Friday July 28, 2017. This year we have focused on the elimination of viral Hepatitis alongside the global #NoHep movement. We are also putting out the message that Hep C can be cured and that everyone, especially Generation Hep (people born between 1945 and 1975) should be tested, as it could save a person from liver fibrosis, cirrhosis and even liver cancer. Elimination of Hepatitis is possible through education for prevention(http://www.catie.ca), vaccination and treatment for cure.

MP Sheri Benson (Saskatoon West) also attended and was tested for HepC, along with her office staff.
It is believed that the majority of people who have Hep C are Baby Boomers (adults born between 1945 and 1975), leaving most sitting MPs in an at-risk category.

Eliminating viral hepatitis by 2030
Here is an infographics from World Health Organization, on the global gap in viral hepatitis care versus the commitment signed by Canada, along with 193 member States, to eliminate viral Hepatitis by 2030.
Unfortunately signing the global commitment is not enough. Canada needs a national action plan towards this commitment and here is why as presented by Action Hepatitis Canada.
