Job Title: Research Nurse – HIV PrEP

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Research Nurse to support a community-based research project aimed at improving access to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among individuals receiving opioid agonist therapy (OAT) in Saskatchewan.

This role integrates clinical nursing care with research coordination and community engagement, with a strong focus on harm reduction, cultural safety, and improving access to care for underserved populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day implementation of an HIV PrEP research study in OAT settings
  • Recruit, screen, and enroll participants receiving OAT (e.g., methadone, buprenorphine/naloxone)
  • Obtain informed consent in accordance with ethical and regulatory standards
  • Conduct clinical assessments (health histories, vital signs, point-of-care testing, specimen collection)
  • Provide HIV prevention education, including PrEP counseling, initiation support, and adherence follow-up
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and OAT program staff to support integrated care
  • Monitor participants for adverse events and ensure appropriate clinical follow-up
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in study databases and case report forms
  • Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), study protocols, and institutional policies
  • Build relationships with community organizations, including harm reduction programs and Indigenous service providers
  • Participate in team meetings, quality assurance, and reporting activities

Qualifications

Required:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Saskatchewan
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Experience in one or more of the following: addictions care, infectious diseases, public health, Indigenous health, or community health
  • Knowledge of HIV prevention, including PrEP (or willingness to learn)
  • Demonstrated ability to provide trauma-informed, nonjudgmental care
  • Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally

Preferred:

  • Experience working in OAT programs or harm reduction settings is an asset
  • Certification or training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Experience with community-based or Indigenous health research
  • Experience with phlebotomy and specimen handling
  • Familiarity with Saskatchewan health systems and community resources
